3 must-read books for wounded healers.

I’ve been a lover of books for as long as I can remember, but since I started my coaching practice, there are a few books that never seem to leave my nightstand.

Though these are not works specifically devoted to entrepreneurship, they have nonetheless been essential to my own healing journey throughout this roller coaster ride of business ownership.

So if you’re looking to dive into some reading material that will help guide you in your own healing journey as a leader, a business owner, and highly sensitive human being, then you’re in the right place.

Let’s do this thing.

Eastern Body, Western Mind
By Anodea Judith

Without exaggerating, the depth of this book blew me away the first time I read it.

A compendium of knowledge that links an energy medicine approach to a western psychology perspective, I continue to reference this book every time I start feeling imbalanced in my life and my business.

Judith presents knowledge in a fascinating way, taking you on a journey through the rainbow bridge of the seven chakras, laying out the reasons for potential imbalances alongside a unique recipe for healing.

Filled with examples of real life case studies of clients Judith worked with alongside insightful reflections on culturally inherited traumas, the text, though extensive, is far from boring.

Whether you’re reading from cover to cover or seeking support only for specific challenges, the value this book provides for those seeking increased energetic balance in destabilizing times (*cough…2021) is immense.

Big Magic
By Elizabeth Gilbert

A longtime lover of Liz Gilbert, I found this book in a bookshop in a tiny town in Cornwall when I serendipitously ran out of reading material on my solo travels a few years back. Or rather, this book found me.

A work that will resonate with all empaths and sensitives on the creative path, Gilbert shares her wisdom about overcoming fear and resistance in the pursuit of a creative life.

Equal parts practical, inspirational, and unexpectedly mystical (dare I say otherworldly??), she presents creative living as a rebellious, spiritual practice.

Ever since I first devoured this book at record speed, I find myself rereading it every several months, just to commune with the transcendent spirit of what she’s managed to tap into with this book.

If you’re looking for a bit of fairy dust in your life, or if you’re simply feeling creatively blocked, this book will light your pathway home.

The Empath and the Archetypal Drama Triangle
By Elaine La Joie

A lifesaving book that found me in the depths of pandemic isolation, The Empath and the Archetypal Drama Triangle explores toxic relationship patterns of unhealed empaths.

Written from a shamanic perspective, Elaine speaks with compassion about the relational merry-go-rounds that empaths often find them in, while reaching out a supportive hand to help you off the ride (figuratively speaking, of course).

A book full of warmth, depth, and wisdom, this is for any empath brave enough to take a deeper look into the ways we participate in unhealthy patterns, ready to begin the process of healing those wounded parts of us that seek to save rather than to serve.

This book was essential to my own understanding and healing of imbalanced patterns both in work and in life, and in my humble opinion, essential reading for any empath that identifies themselves as a healer.

And if you’re willing to consider its perspective, I hope it brings you the same illuminating wisdom.
